The surroundings in High Holborn and Kingsway are rife with food chains. Wagamama and Byron stand out. If you're looking for something a bit less standardised and possibly a bit more upscale, here are some true troves.
Rules, on Maiden Lane, in Covent Garden, is London's oldest restaurant.
The Delauney's on Aldwich does scrumptious breakfasts.
For an everyday treat, try the Redemption Roasters, right at the end of Whetstone Park.
If you head towards the river, cross Lincoln's Inn Fields and behind the Royal Courts of Justice, on Carey Street, you can find the Seven Stars pub, one of the oldest in London. It's not on the tourists' map and you might spot a judge still wearing his wig.
On Lincoln's Inn Fields, you will find Sir John Soane's Museum. One of the smaller, less known museums, it is well worth a visit. We also recommend the Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House: it is tiny compared to the neighbouring National Gallery, but its treasures will amaze you.
If you're more sports-oriented, you can book the tennis court within Lincoln's Inn Fields.

There's a medium-sized Sainbury's on the top corner of Kingway, in front of Holborn station.
Walking towards Chacery Lane station, you can find a Marks and Spencer's Simply Food.
The nearest cash point is inside Holborn Station.
